Acacia falciformis goes under a multitude of common names: Hickory Wattle, Mountain Hickory Wattle, Tanning Wattle, Broad-leaf Hickory & Pale Hickory Wattle. Its habitat is equally as broad extending from Cairns to southern Victoria on the tablelands and slopes of the Great Diving Range.
An evergreen tree, growing to 12 metres with a spread of 4 metres, the stem is erect, stately; the phyllodes (modified leaf stems that act and look like leaves on most Wattles) are thick, leathery, broad, sickle-shaped, (falcate) bright green and 15cm long; the flowers are large, fragrant, ball-shaped and pale golden yellow. They appear in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
The tannin (tannic acid) content of the bark exceeds 40 per cent.
