Blue Stones, Blue Pebbles
Argyroderma delaeti roseum
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List)
This South African “Living Stone” is a small, very variable species that resemble little eggs made out of greenish quartz or pale jade. They occupy a strange habitat in the quartz fields of coastal Namaquland in the north west of the country. The region consists of flat plains or gently rolling hills that seem endless.
A good winter rain event supplementing the frequent fog the area receives will produce a blanket of the plants such that you cannot avoid walking on them.
The plants consist of a pair of fleshy leaves growing up to 3 cm (1.25 in) in height either in clusters or singly. The variation occurs in the flower colour which can be purple, pink, violet, occasionally white or yellow and all from seeds from the same seed pod. So you can never be sure of the flower colour until it opens in autumn. The leaves have a distinctive blue-green or silvery leaves that are replaced yearly by a new pair of leaves.
Offered is a packet of 10 seeds with Grownotes to assist you.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
