Coast Bankia
Banksia integrifolia
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
The Coast Banksia is a native of Queensland, New South Wales and Victorian coastal plains. It is adaptable to most well-drained soils. It is drought, frost and salt spray hardy – one tough plant. It is often seen growing in the first line of vegetation on coastal beaches.
This plant can grow into a large tree in the wild but is a smaller shrubby plant in cultivation. The leaves are thick, leathery, silver-grey underneath and rich dark green on top. The flowers are lime-green, 15cm long and the cones persist on the plant. This tree is a very good source of honey and nectar.
