Brachychiton bidwillii

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)

This plant is a highly variable species with several recognised ‘forms’. An Australian native tree growing from the New South Wales border northwards to Bowen and inland to Leichhardt.

Growing to 5 metres with a spread of 4 metres in its best form and 2 metres high in another form, it can have a single trunk, multiple trunks, the leaves may be deeply five-lobed or almost entire, hairy or hairless and green or purple-brown when young. Flowers may be pink or red and flowering period from 4 to 6 weeks or 4 to 6 months.

Like all plants of the genus, it will tolerate a range of soils provided they are well drained, preference is for a full sun position (which enhances flowering), they are frost hardy to minus 6 degrees C and are drought tolerant from about 6 weeks of age.

Propagation by seed is considered easy.

Offered is a packet of 5 seeds (seed is large and expensive) with grow notes to assist you to successfully cultivate this pretty flowering native tree.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
