Desert Willow or Desert Catalpa
(This plant is NOT on the Australian Noxious Weed List)
A native of Texas, California and Northern Mexico, this deciduous small tree to tall shrub grows to a height of 5 metres (15 ft) and bears an open, spreading crown. Thew leaves are willow-like (hence the name), light green, 10-30 cm (4-12 in) long and 1 cm (0.3 in) wide. The flower is somewhat trumpet-shaped, dark pink to purple often with white, yellow and purple streaks within the throat. The flowers are borne in terminal clusters, appear in summer, and have a violet-like scent.
Adapted to desert washes, the tree is drought tolerant and does best with just enough water to keep it flowering and a healthy green during summer. An easy to grow, maintenance free plant for for arid and semi-arid gardens.
Offered is a packet of approx 50 seeds and Grownotes to assist you.
