Chorizema aciculare

(This plant is NOT on the Australian Noxious Weed List)

A native shrub from West Australia growing west of a line from Geraldton on the west coast to Esperance on the south coast. With such a broad habitat which includes outcrops, undulating plains, ridges, coastal dunes and sometimes swampy areas, it has a conservation status of ‘Not Threatened’.

It prefers light to medium soils (sandy, loamy, laterite or granite) in an open, sunny position and is drought and frost tolerant. Growing to a height of 0.15 – 0.5 metres (6 – 18in)  it is an erect or spreading shrub; the stem is slender and straggling, the leaves light green, linear, narrow and acuminate (pointed); the flowers are an unusual combination of yellow, orange, pink and red, pea-shaped and appear in July through October (southern hemisphere).

This plant grows readily from seed.
