Spotted Gum
Corymbia maculata syn. Eucalyptus
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
A native of Queensland and New South Wales, this handsome tree has an extensive natural habitat and will grow in all but arid regions.
A tall, evergreen tree growing to 40m (130ft) x 8m (25ft) wide, it prefers light to heavy soils in an open, sunny position. It is drought-resistant but frost tender.
The stem is erect and straight with pendant branches. The bark is smooth, mottled with cream, bluish-grey, pink or red. After the annual shedding of bark, the new bark is a rich salmon colour fading to that described above. Another distinctive feature is the dimpling of the bark year-round.
The flowers are white appearing from winter to spring.
This tree is one of the bloodwoods which have been split off from the Eucalyptus genus to a genus of their own – that of Corymbia.
Offered is a packet of approximately 1000 seeds (no chaff) and Grownotes to assist in the cultivation of this easily grown tree.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
