Lemon Scented Grass

Cymbopogon ambiguus

(This plant is NOT on the Australian Noxious Weed List)

Native to Australia, except the cool, temperate climate areas south of a line from Perth to Sydney, the Lemon Scented Grass grows in coastal, tropical, sub-tropical, arid, semi-arid climates across the continent. When the foliage is crushed it emits a strong lemon or citron odour.

An aromatic, tufted perennial or clumping grass growing to 1.8 metres on rocky red loam, sand, ironstone, granite, limestone, sandstone and along creeks (WA Herbarium). It is reported adaptable to soils, drought and frost resistant but needs a full sun position. While accepting drought, it performs much better with regular watering and can be sheared off to produce fresh foliage each year. It is becoming very popular as a landscape plant.

The Aborigines used this plant to cure headaches and migraine. Some research is reported to say that it is a better cure than aspirin.

This plant grows readily from seed.

Offered is a packet of 100 seeds and Grownotes to assist you in propagation.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
