A dwarf succuent plant from Western Cape (Little Karoo), South Africa where it lives on flat, stony arid areas in loamy soil with quartzite pebbles. In time, it forms a compact clump of paired spherical leaves joined for nearly three-quarters of their length. The leaves are very firm to the touch, fleshy and about 1.5cm in length. Leaf colour, when grown in full sun, is green to whitish or greyish sometimes tinged with yellow, red or purple. Flower colour is variable and may be white, cream or pale pink.
This species is vary variable in habit, occupying a habitat that experiences summer and winter rainfall and temperatures that are always above 10°C in winter. It is one of the much sought after species.
