Sturt’s Desert Rose

Gossypium sturtianum

A native of Queensland, New South Wales and South Australia in arid central Australia regions where it prefers light well-drained soils in a sunny open position. It is frost and drought tolerant.

An evergreen shrub to 1 metre with a spread of 1 metre, the stem is stiff and erect with a dome-shaped crown of large, greyish-green leaves with black dots.

The flowers are pale purple, five-petalled which are darker at the base, and hibiscus-like 12cm across. The shrub blooms in summer.

Offered is a packet of 15 seeds and Grownotes to assist you to cultivate this unusual plant.
