Chin Cactus
Gymocalycium affine
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.
A native of Cordoba State, North-east Argentina where it grows on flat grassland and low hills with porous soil. It is a solitary cactus but produces offsets at the base, has thin unicoloured spines that radially spread and are almost straight.
Flowering is in summer and occurs on a large robust stem (pedicel) which carries a flower of pink, white or pink & white. Dormancy is in winter and watering should cease during dormancy. The plant is cold-tolerant to -5°C if the soil is kept dry.
Seed propagation is considered relatively easy.
Offered is a packet of 20 seeds with propagation instructions.
