A native of south-west West Australia in an area east of Perth where it likes light, well-drained, loam or gravelly soils in an open, sunny position. It is drought resistant but dislikes frosts.
An evergreen, tall shrub to small tree growing to a height of 4 metres (12ft) with a spread of 2 metres (6ft); the stem is erect and smooth; the leaves are greyish-green, round to elliptical and pointed, 150mm long with entire margins; the flowers are deep pink and cream, appearing autumn to winter and the fruit is hard, beaked, woody capsules that persist on the shrub for a long time.
