Helianthus F1 Matilda Sunflower
The Matilda cultivar sunflower has been bred as a pot or bedding plant and grows a mere 30-40cm (12-16in) tall. A readily branching plant it bears a number of flowers each of 12-15cm (4 1/2-5 1/2in) in diameter. In the breeding process, this plant lost its ability to produce pollen and several other useful attributes resulted from this.
Flowering is prolonged because there is no pollen to fertilise the ovaries and send the bloom into the seed-producing mode. The lack of pollen also enhances the black flower centre by providing a ‘depth’ of colour to offset the golden yellow semi-double blooms and the plant has a faster cultivation time of 60-75 days.
Cultivation in full sun in pots or prepared beds with an average water requirement is very easy.
Offered is a packet of 20 seeds with cultivation notes.
