Native to the high Drakensberg Mountains of South Africa, this is one of the lowest growing, prettiest and most reliably cold hardy species of the genus. They are hardy to zone 5. Growing just 90cm (18in) tall with a spread to 60cm it is suitable for the smaller garden plot.
Torch Lilies require well drained soils (particularly in winter), prefer full sun, and are easy to grow if you get this right. They form grey-green clumps that remain evergreen in milder climates and flower through spring to summer. The large flowers are held on a tall spike clear of the foliage and exhibit a combination of three colours of red, orange and yellow blooms that are attractive to nectar feeding birds.
The flower also make a very good cut flower having an excellent vase life.
Offered is a packet of 20 seeds and Grownotes to assist you to cultivate this hardy, succulent plant.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
