A native of the southern coastal and adjacent inland areas of West Australia from Perth to Albany where it prefers well-drained soils in an open sunny position. It is drought and frost tolerant.
A tall, evergreen shrub growing to 2 – 5 metres (6 – 16ft) high; the leaves are linear 10 mm long and 1 mm wide; flowers are cream to pale yellow and occur in clusters at the ends of the branches. The flowers appear spring and are followed small, one celled fruits which release the seeds immediately after ripening.
An adaptable and almost pest free genus, it is suited to full sun positions on a wide range of well drained soils and is often found in seasonally wet swamps. It responds very well to pruning immediately after flowering.
It is readily grown from seed.
