Cushion Bush
Leucophyta brownii
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.
Cushion Bush is a small shrub whose habitat is seaside coastal from just north of Perth southwards to the Great Australian Bight and across to Victoria and the lower Tasman Coast. An erect compact shrub to 1 metre high its habitat includes white or grey-white sands over limestone, brown sands or brown sandy clay over granite. It may be found on coastal foredunes, rock crevices in cliffs, the base of cliffs and salt marshes.
A member of the daisy family, it has compact, silver-grey foliage which contrasts well when planted in rockeries or used as a landscaping plant. The yellow globular flower heads provide an unusual and interesting display in spring and summer.
Living on first line dunes facing the Great Southern Ocean it is salt hardy, frost and drought resistant. It works well in containers and as a mass planting which when established rarely needs watering. The foliage and flowers blend well with cut flower arrangements or floral art.
