Linum grandiflorum ‘Red’
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.
A native of North Africa and Southern Europe’s dry areas, it may be safely said to be one of the easiest, showiest and most beautiful of all the hardy annuals.
Growing to 35 – 45cm (15 – 18in) tall, it grows quickly, blooms heavily and dies with the first frost. The flowers appear early summer into autumn and are brilliant blood-red with a satin sheen, the petals often edged in black.
Preference is for loose, sandy soils however it is adaptable providing the soil is fast draining. It is drought tolerant and can be grown in full sun or light shade. A better plant is to be had in full sun with sufficient water. A very good plant for xeriscapes and rock gardens.
