This perennial Lobelia has upright spikes of flowers, not at all like the more familiar trailing types seen in hanging baskets. An heirloom plant with bronze-red foliage which contrasts well with other garden plants.
Growing to 90 cm (3 ft) tall with a spread of 30 cm (12 in), they are excellent for mass plantings in gardens and tubs, their spikes of dense, red flowers brightening up any spot. While this plant will grow in average conditions it will also accept boggy ground and wet feet without difficulty. The flowers also lend themselves useful as cut flowers having a good vase life.
