Black Mulberry

Morus nigra

This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List

The Black Mulberry is thought to have originated in the mountains of Iran but is so widespread in cultivation that its origin has been lost.

Mulberries are very long-lived trees and will sprout again even after the tree has rotted and fallen over.  A deciduous tree growing to 12 metres (39 ft) with a spread of 15 metres (49 ft); its leaves are heart-shaped 10-20 cm long (4-8 in), the upper side is rough with very short, stiff hairs and the underside is downy; the fruit are drupes almost black when ripe, abundant and richly flavoured. Fruit ripening is in spring.

The fruit may be eaten as harvested, made into jams or sherbets, baked in a mulberry pie or sprinkled over your morning cereal.

Note. Black Mulberry juice stains whatever it touches and is difficult to remove.

Offered is a packet of approximately 50 seeds with propagation notes.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
