Black Tupelo

Nyssa sylvatica

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)

A native of eastern North America where it prefers rich, well-drained soils in a protected, sunny position. It will tolerate the extreme cold of eastern Canada/North-Eastern USA but strongly resents drought conditions.

A deciduous tree, it grows to 20 metres with a spread of 4 metres and is pyramidal in form. The leaves are large, oval and glossy green turning red and yellow in Autumn. This tree is the first to show colour in autumn and is regarded by many as the showiest.

The flowers are greenish-white and are not the least remarkable. The fruit is small, purplish berries.

Offered is a packet of 15 seeds with propagation notes.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
