Scarlet Ball Cactus

Parodia haselbergii syn Brasilicactus

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List)

A native of Brazil (Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina) where it grows on rocky outcrops, grassland or pampas and in rock crevices. It grows in a tropical arid region but will survive in a temperate climate with suitable protection.
A geometric globular Cactus with up to 30 spiral ribs and dense white silvery spines that almost obscure the plant. It is a heavy bloomer the produces showy scarlet flowers for a long period of time. Consequently it is a very popular Cactus and unfortunately is under pressure in the wild from grazing, agriculture and dam building, though not from plant collectors.
Scarlet Ball Cactus grows to 10 cm with a spread of 15 cm. Enthusiasts grow this plant with the crown slightly offset to prevent water sitting in the crown and causing rot.

Offered is a packet of 20 seeds with Grownotes to assist you.
