Poached Egg Daisy
Polycalynna stuartii syn Myriocephalus stuartii
The Poached Egg Daisy is an annual from the arid centre of Australia and occurs in all mainland states. Its presence in West Australia occurs only on the border between WA/NT/SA. It is one of the most abundant and conspicuous plants in spring on the sand plains and dunefields of Central Australia during good seasons of autumn rains.
A stout, erect herb growing to 50cm high with stems either simple or branching basally; leaves are linear or linear-lanceolate, narrow at the base, grey-green to 7cm long; flowers are compound heads, broadly hemispherical with white, papery petals encircling yellow, grouped florets. Nature’s mass plantings result in a sea of white and yellow in spring.
