Rudbeckia hirta, from northern USA & Canada, has a multitude of common names – Coneflower, Black or Brown Eyed Susan, Brown Betty, Gloriosa Daisy, Golden Jerusalem, Poorland Daisy and Yellow Ox-eye Daisy – then the seed producers began to hybridise/ breed them and a host of cultivar names now abound.
Rudbeckia hirta ‘Denver Daisy’ is a variety growing to 90 cm (36 in) with a dark ring at the base of the flower petals which accentuates the signature dark centre of the Black-Eyed Susan. They make striking cut flowers.
