The Queen Trigger Plant is native to the southwest corner of West Australia where it prefers sandy loam, sandy clay over laterite or granite soils in coastal areas, hillsides and gullies, Jarrah or Wandoo forest and low scrub.
A densely tufting perennial herb growing 0.75 metres high with narrow oblanceolate leaves 10-60 cm long and 2 – 5.5 cm wide, acute apex and incurved margins. the Flowers are mauve to purple in a complex paniculate structure and appear from September to November (Southern Hemisphere).
The genus Stylidium are called trigger plants because the flower has a trigger mechanism that strikes the insect probing the flower and thereby covering its back with pollen.
