Felicia ‘The Blues’
This plant is a mat-forming annual with the most striking blue flowers. A native of South Africa, it grows to a height of 45 cm (1.5 ft) with an equal spread and is considered very easy to grow. It is adaptable to soil type, likes full sun and is tolerant of high temperatures, humidity, rabbits and is good for stabilising slopes.
The 2 cm (3/4 in), fragrant flowers are on a single stem held above the foliage and are long-lasting. A characteristic feature is that the centre of the flower is also blue instead of the usual yellow. The foliage is light green, aromatic, tidy and compact allowing the plant to be used for bedding, baskets and containers. Prolonged flowering can be encouraged by the removal of spent flowers and reseeding by leaving them to mature.
