A native of Western Australia where it likes light to medium, dry or rocky soils in an open sunny position. It is drought tolerant, moderately frost tolerant and good for coastal plantings (salt air) with some protection.
An evergreen shrub to 2 metres with a spread of 2 metres, it is a multi-stemmed shrub with light to mid-green leaves crowding the stem. The brilliant scarlet flowers in dense spikes appear in late winter to spring.
