Spearwood or Pondil
Kunzea ericifolia
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List
A native of the southern coastal and adjacent inland areas of West Australia from Perth to Albany where it prefers well-drained soils in an open sunny position. It is drought and frost tolerant.
A tall, evergreen shrub growing to 2 – 5 metres (6 – 16ft) high; the leaves are linear 10 mm long and 1 mm wide; flowers are cream to pale yellow and occur in clusters at the ends of the branches. The flowers appear in spring and are followed by small, one-celled fruits which release the seeds immediately after ripening.
An adaptable and almost pest-free genus, it is suited to full sun positions on a wide range of well-drained soils and is often found in seasonally wet swamps. It responds very well to pruning immediately after flowering.
It is readily grown from seed.
Offered is a 1 gram packet (approx. 7000 seeds) complete with propagation notes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
