Silky-Leaved Leptospermum
Leptospermum nitens
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.
A native of southwest Western Australia, a usually upright shrub growing to 1 – 3 metres high and 1.5 metres wide. It is an evergreen shrub with mid-green, obovate leaves between 5 – 12 mm long. The flowers are 1 cm in diameter, white, sometimes tinged with pink which appear June to December (southern hemisphere). Though it is similar to other species, it can be distinguished by short silky hairs pressed closely against the hypanthium, its grey, silky-looking leaves and a fleshy seed capsule that drops off the plant at seed maturity.
Beekeepers plant this species in plantations to take advantage of the long flowering period and copious nectar produced.
Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (including chaff) with propagation notes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
