Baobab or Monkey Bread Tree

Adansonia digitata

A native of tropical Africa and Madagascar, it is adaptable to most soils. Being a warm climate tree, it dislikes frost or drought.

A deciduous tree, it grows to 12 metres with a girth of 12 metres. The stem is thick and swollen, the bark thick and grey while the crown is sparse. The leaves are bright green and palmate having 3 to 7 leaflets. The flowers are white, fluffy and solitary and the fruit is oblong and up to 30cm long.

The flesh of the fruit can be made into a drink similar to lemonade.

 Offered is a packet of 3 seeds and comprehensive propagation Grownotes.
