False Red Sandlewood or Red Bead Tree

Adenanthera pavonina

A native of Northern Australia and South East Asia, it prefers well drained soils in an open sunny position and a warm climate.

A deciduous tree, growing to a height of 7 metres with a spread of 4 metres, it has a slender, erect trunk and its leaves are made up of multiple leaflets. The flowers are white or yellow occurring in long racemes while the seeds are a very bright red.

The heartwood of this tree contains a red dye used by the natives, its seeds may be roasted and eaten or they may be threaded and used as beads. 

Offered is a packet of 10 seeds with grownotes to assist you to propagate this tree.
