Irish Strawberry TreeArbutus unedo(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.) Truly Irish. A native of Killarney in Ireland, this tree prefers light, acid soil in a sunny, protected position. It is frost tolerant but drought tender. An evergreen tree growing to 5 metres high and with a spread of 2 metres. It has a slender, erect trunk with reddish bark and a dense crown of small, glossy green leaves. The flowers are white, cup-shaped and profuse and are carried terminally. The fruit is round, red berries and resembles strawberries. The fruit is used for wine-making in Italy and Spain.
