A native of Queensland and New South Wales where it grows in the coastal ranges crossing the states’ border. It prefers shallow soils near cliffs, in an open, sunny position. It is drought and frost resistant.
An evergreen shrub or small tree growing to a height of 6 metres with a spread of 2 metres; the stem is erect with a rounded crown and pinkish brown new growth; the leaves are narrow-oblanceolate (broader near the tip than the base) often with one leaf margin straighter than the other and often recurved (curled under), 5-10cm long, the year. pale green and distinct midrib, intramarginal and lateral veins; the flowers are 3-5cm long and about 60mm in diameter, petals densely hairy on the under surface, filaments crimson to 25mm long and anthers red-brown.
Flowering is from spring to summer and sporadically throughout
