Alpine Bottlebrush
Callistemon pityoides
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List)
The Alpine Bottlebrush is a native that has a presence in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria at altitudes of 900m to 2000m where it grows near swamps, river banks and damp areas. It will tolerate cold/snow but dislikes drought conditions.
An evergreen shrub to 3m with a spread of 2m, this shrub forms pure, dense thickets in its natural habitat but does not seem to do so in cultivation and specimens growing in the Australian National Botanic Gardens have proven to be good garden subjects.
The leaves are narrow and sharply pointed 1.5-2.5cm in length and less than 3mm wide. The flowers appear late in the season but when it does bloom masses of small, dense cream brushes are borne on the end of the branches.
Callistemon grows readily from seed.
Offered is a packet of approx 200 seeds with Grownotes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
