Lawson’s Golden Cypress
Chamaecyparis lawsoniana ‘Argentea’ syn. Cupressus lawsoniana
(This plant is NOT on the Australian Noxious Weed List)
A native of Oregon and California where it is considered endangered as a 60 metre (200ft) tree. However, there are multitude of dwarf and low growing cultivars which the nursery offers. One site I checked had 60 different cultivars of this one tree and another site reported 559 cultivars.
The small columnar tree prefers sandy and clay loams and rocky ridges in a cool Mediterranean climate. It has reddish-brown, stringy bark on an erect trunk, yellow-green, pinnate leaflets, no flowers (it is a gymnosperm); and purplish to reddish-brown pine cones.
Growing to a height of 2 metres in 10 years, this small tree could not be considered a fast grower. Despite that, it is the most important ornamental conifer species in the UK.
Offered is a packet of 30 seeds and Grownotes to assist you.
All my seed travels safely with bubble wrap protection.
