Cineraria Miranda Dwarf Mix is the common name for Pericallis x hybrida. Most gardeners think that Cineraria is the botanical name but the genus Cineraria is a little known group of South African plants of no great significance.
Best known as the Florist’s Cineraria, Cinerarias come in two forms, normal or dwarf, Cineraria Multiflora is the dwarf form. Growing to a dwarfed height of 25 – 30cm (10 – 12in), the tall form grows to 60cm (2ft). The leaves are oval to lanceolate with finely toothed margins and forming a basal rosette. The attractive flowers, which are a vast improvement on the plant in the wild, come in blues, pinks, red, carmine and white.
Cinerarias do not like frosts, high humidity or torrential rain otherwise they are easy to grow in shade to part shade. They are tolerant of heat, salt air and poor soils and are ideal indoor or in window boxes, patios and enclosed courtyards.
