Red Flowering Gum

The Red Flowering Gum is a native of the southern portion of West Australia where it likes moist, well-drained sandy loams in a protected, sunny position. It dislikes drought and accepts only moderate levels of frost.
An evergreen small tree growing to 6 to 9 metres (20-30ft) with a spread of 3.5-8 metres (12-25ft). The stem is erect and often twisted, branching with dark, rough bark and a densely textured crown; the leaves are bright green, lanceolate, acuminate with undulating margins and 14cm long; the flower buds are club-shaped occurring in groups of 3 to 7 in the leaf axils in terminal clusters in summer.
The flower colour can be variable and red, scarlet, pink and orange flowers have been seen.
