Nodding Chocolate Lily
Dichopogon fimbriatus
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
Dichopogon fimbriatus, the Chocolate Lily is a native of the south of West Australia, Chocolate Lilies form tubers on the ends of the roots which the aboriginals used as a food source. They are frost and drought hardy.
They have mid-green, grass-like leaves 30 cm long and delicate mauve flowers with dark anthers on a slender stem. The flowers have a chocolate scent and it is worth growing a small clump of these plants for their perfume alone.
The seed of this plant requires smoke treatment to germinate, it will not germinate without it. Smoke Treatment is the simple process of sprinkling treated vermiculite over the sown seeds. The treatment is available in my store.
Offered is a packet of 20 mixed seeds and Grownotes to assist you to cultivate these delicate natives.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
