Blackbutt
Eucalyptus pilularis
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
A tall tree of the eastern coastal plain from Eden, NSW, northwards to South East Queensland. Growing to 70 metres with distinct buttressing as it ages, the grey-brown bark is fibrous on the lower half of the trunk and smooth, pale-grey to white on the upper trunk and limbs. The leaves are dark green, slightly sickle-shaped and concolorous.
The tree is the source of durable, dense construction timber and flooring from forests and farm agroforestry. Oddly, it is not included as a Koala food by one major Koala Preservation organisation but two similar sites say it is used by Koalas (but don’t say in what sense).
Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (includes chaff) and Grownotes. Buyers should read the disclaimer below.
DISCLAIMER.
All Eucalyptus/Corymbia seed is harvested from the wild under licence and is sold as a combination of fertilised/unfertilised (chaff) seed. In many cases, it is not possible to tell the difference. The ratio of fertilised seed varies greatly and depends wholly on weather conditions prior to seed set. Standard industry practice is to offer 200 seeds per packet which translate to something like 10 to 30 viable seeds (which have not been counted). If the above is not acceptable to you, please do not purchase any of the above seeds.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
