Poplar Box or Bimble Box

 Eucalyptus populnea

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)

The Poplar or Bimble Box can be found on the western slopes and plains of New South Wales extending into Queensland west of Mackay to Barcaldine and south to Warwick. Like NSW it is widespread and abundant.

It is a tree to 20 metres (80ft)with a spread of 5 metres (126ft); the is bark persistent on its trunk and larger branches, is grey with whitish patches, fibrous, flaky (box), smooth above glossy, grey and shedding in short ribbons. The leaves are broadly lanceolate, elliptic, ovate or rhomboidal and 5 – 11cm long, glossy and concolorous (same colour both sides).

The flowers are in groups of 7 to 11, creamy white appearing in summer.

Propagation of the seed is considered easy.

Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (includes chaff) with propagation notes. Buyers should read the disclaimer below.

All Eucalyptus/Corymbia seed is harvested from the wild under licence and is sold as a combination of fertilised/unfertilised (chaff) seed. In many cases, it is not possible to tell the difference. The ratio of fertilised seed varies greatly and depends wholly on weather conditions prior to seed set. Standard industry practice is to offer 200 seeds per packet which translate to something like 10 to 30 viable seeds (which have not been counted). If the above is not acceptable to you, please do not purchase any of the above seeds.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
