Heuchera sanguinea cv
This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.
Heuchera (pronounced hew-ker’-a) is also known as Coral Bells and Alum Root. Native to North America where it likes sun to mostly shade, well drained soil and is winter hardy in USDA zones 3 – 8.
The Bressingham Hybrids have been bred for flower production as opposed to other forms which have been bred for its leaves which can be green, pink, red, purple, bronze and silver. These hybrids usually have ruffled leaves.
The Bressingham Hybrids have a plain green, unruffled leaf which is evergreen. Spikes of delicate bell shaped flowers of red, pink or white blooms appear in spring and have a long flowering period.
Each plant grows in a neat clump 30-45cm high (12-18in) and can be used as borders or potted in a shady courtyard. They are salt and cold tolerant (USDA zones 3-8) and should be divided every 3 years in spring.
The flowers should be dead-headed to prolong flowering or may be used as a cut flower having a vase life of 5-7 days.
