The Scarlet Emperor bean is a showy ornamental and edible climbing bean. The plant carries masses of scarlet flowers in slender clusters over the summer and autumn season. The flowers are followed by green, flattened pods that are tasty when young and older beans can be shelled and prepared like green lima beans.

A bean that tolerates part shade and cool conditions and is quick to provide Cover over porches, trellises, arbors of fences. The can also be grown on poles tied to form a teepee shape.
