Free Flowering Schwantesia
Schwantesia triebneri
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List)
A native of Namibia (Luderitz-South) and South Africa (Nyasaland), it is a small cushion-forming, low-growing, stemless leaf succulent that is free-flowering if you get the water requirements right.
The plant is in the form of a compact tuft of grey-green to bluish-white leaves fused at their base. The upper side of the leaf is a flat or slightly domed equilateral triangle while the underside is vaulted and sharply keeled. The leaf margins are sharply defined and often reddish in appearance. New leaves arise from the crease between each pair of leaves.
Flowering and growth is usually in Autumn because of the autumn/winter rainfall of its habitat but if water is made available in summer (when the plant is normally dormant) it will continue growing and flowering. Flowers are 3-5 cm wide, yellow, with 43-48 petals.
Offered is a packet of 20 seeds and grownotes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
