Garden Valerian
Valerian officinalis
A native of Europe and temperate Asia it is drought and frost hardy once established.
A perennial plant that re-seeds, though not aggressively, this plant was in use medicinally in ancient Greece and Rome and became popular again in the 16th century when many usages were recorded.
The stem is branching, bristly, hollow and often reddish; the leaves are opposite, pinnate with 6 – 11 pairs and terminal leaflet, leaflets toothed, margins entire; the flowers form an umbellate compound cyme of lavender to white.
This plant readily grows from seed and re-seeds unless dead-headed.
Offered is a packet of 150 seeds complete with propagation notes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
