Australian Golden Wattle
Acacia pycnantha
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List)
This small tree is Australia’s floral emblem and gives to Australia its national sporting colours of green and gold.
Found in a broad belt following the coast in southern New South Wales, Victoria and into South Australia, the tall shrub/small tree prefers shallow, sandy soils in an open, sunny position. It is drought resistant but must be protected against frost when young.
Evergreen, growing to 8 metres with a spread of 4 metres, the stem is erect, stately and has smooth bark; the phyllodes (modified leaf stems that act and look like leaves on most Wattles) are thick, leathery, broad, sickle shaped, bright green and 15cm long; the flowers are large, fragrant, ball shaped and deep golden yellow. They appear in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
The tannin (tannic acid) content of the bark exceeds 40 percent.
Offered is a packet of 25 seeds with grow notes to assist you in successfully cultivating Australia’s floral emblem.
All my seed travels safely with bubble wrap protection.
