Lawson’s or Port Orford CypressChamaecyparis lawsoniana syn. Cupressus lawsoniana(This plant is NOT on the Australian Noxious Weed List) A native of Oregon and California where it is considered endangered as a 60 metre (200ft) tree. However, there are multitude of dwarf and low growing cultivars which the nursery offers. One site I checked had 60 different cultivars of this one tree and another site reported 559 cultivars. The small columnar tree prefers sandy and clay loams and rocky ridges in a climate of cool Mediterranean. It has reddish-brown, stringy bark on an erect trunk, pinnate leaflets, no flowers (it is a gymnosperm); and purplish to reddish-brown pine cones.Growing to a height of 2 metres in 10 years, this small tree could not be considered a fast grower. Despite that, it is the most important ornamental conifer species in the UK.Offered is a packet of 30 seeds and Grownotes to assist you.All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
