Lemon Scented Gum

Corymbia citriodora syn. Eucalyptus citriodora

A native of eastern Queensland where is prefers deep, sandy, moist, well-drained loams or clays in an protected, sunny position. It is frost hardy but dislikes drought conditions.

An attractive evergreen tall tree to 40 metres with a spread of 4 metres. The stem is slender, straight with high, spreading branches, smooth, powdery white to grey bark and open textured crown.  The leaves are dull, dark green, narrowly lanceolate, 16cm long and exude a sharp lemon fragrance. The flowers buds are oval appearing in groups of three or five while the flowers open greenish-white winter and spring.

This tree is a bloodwood (weeps red keno when wounded) which group of trees has been renamed Corymbia from Eucalyptus. All bloodwoods have large seeds when compared with the Eucalyptus.
