A native of South Africa and Namaqualand, often called the Cape Marigold, this annual has some unusual habitat requirements. Preferring a hot dry climate, it will only tolerate humidity with low temperatures. A high temperature/high humidity environment results in a lush plant but few flowers. The plant is drought tolerant but needs well drained soils and full sun or the flower will close once shaded. African daisies are orange but hybridising has produced four colours orange, yellow, salmon and white.
Growing to a height on 30cm it is a good winter annual in zones 10 – 13 and spring/summer annual in zones 8 – 10. Flowering can be prolonged by ‘deadheading’ which will also prevent the plant from re-seeding. African daisies do not survive frost and may only re-seed if the seed falls on bare ground.
Offered is a packet containing approximately 100 seeds and Grownotes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
