Silverton Red Gum

Eucalyptus camaldulensis var obtusa

(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)

The River Red Gum is known to grow almost anywhere but more particularly along the water courses (dry and wet) of the inland. A very large tree, its spreading canopy has provided shade to most Australians in their leisure hours. The great trees along the Murray River are River Red Gums.

Preferring light to heavy soils in an open, sunny position, this tree can grow to a height of 50 metres with a spread of 7 metres. The stem is often twisted and the branches spreading. The bark is smooth and reddish brown while the crown is densely textured. The leaves are dark green and the summer flowers are white. This tree is drought, frost, heat and salt tolerant.

The seed offered has been collected from around Silverton, a once thriving mining town 25km north-west of Broken Hill. Seed collected from a specific area is called provenance, hence Silverton provenance and the seed will carry some of the attributes that allowed it to thrive in a semi-arid ecosystem.

Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (includes chaff) and Grownotes. Buyers should read the disclaimer below.

DISCLAIMER.

All Eucalyptus/Corymbia seed is harvested from the wild under licence and is sold as a combination of fertilised/unfertilised (chaff) seed. In many cases, it is not possible to tell the difference. The ratio of fertilised seed varies greatly and depends wholly on weather conditions prior to seed set. Standard industry practice is to offer 200 seeds per packet which translate to something like 10 to 30 viable seeds (which have not been counted). If the above is not acceptable to you, please do not purchase any of the above seeds.

All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
