Victorian Blue Gum, Eurabbie
Eucalyptus globulus ssp bicostata
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
A native of the Victorian montane and of Tasmania, where it prefers medium to heavy, moist soils in a sunny, open position. This tree is a popular choice by gardeners because it is drought and frost tolerant.
An evergreen tree to 60 metres in its natural habitat, it is somewhat smaller in cultivation.
The stem is erect and heavily branched with course, rough bark and a densely textured crown; the leaves are large, leathery, bluish-green, curved lanceolate, 30 cm long and strongly aromatic. The flower buds are bluish-grey, knobbed and solitary while the flowers are white appearing from winter to summer.
Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (includes chaff) and Grownotes. Buyers should read the disclaimer below.
All Eucalyptus/Corymbia seed is harvested from the wild under licence and is sold as a combination of fertilised/unfertilised (chaff) seed. In many cases, it is not possible to tell the difference. The ratio of fertilised seed varies greatly and depends wholly on weather conditions prior to seed set. Standard industry practice is to offer 200 seeds per packet which translate to something like 10 to 30 viable seeds (which have not been counted). If the above is not acceptable to you, please do not purchase any of the above seeds.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
