Horizontal Tea Tree
Leptospermum continentale ‘Horizontalis’
(This plant is not on the Australian Noxious Weed List.)
The origin of this plant cultivar is a collection from the wild near Portland, Victoria, it is a form of Leptospermum continentale. The name refers to the low-growing ‘flat-topped’ habit that the shrub exhibits.
An evergreen shrub growing 1 metre high and 2 metres wide with dark green foliage and profuse, white flowers in spring. Preference is for full sun to part shade and it is tolerant of light to heavy soils, heavy frosts, salt, extended dryness or poorly drained areas. An excellent groundcover plant.
It should be noted that the only way to reproduce Leptospermum ‘Horizontalis’ is by cuttings (cloning). Seed from this cultivar may be true to type or may vary greatly from the original parent due to genetic variation. It may even produce another worthwhile cultivar.
Propagation by seed occurs readily.
Offered is a packet of 200 seeds (including chaff) with propagation notes.
All my seed is posted in bubble wrap protection.
